The U.S. Mission in Cairo/Egypt is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Supervisory Information Specialist in the Public Affairs Office (PA). The work schedule for this position is Full Time 40 hrs. per week.


Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

The incumbent is the senior information specialist and media advisor in the Public Affairs Office. S/he is responsible for both media analysis and outreach. The incumbent provides analysis and media recommendations to the Ambassador and the Minister Counselor for Public Affairs. The incumbent also contributes to medium to long-term messaging and outreach strategies, cultivates senior contacts within the media world, and advises on programs to increase the professionalism of Egypt’s media. The incumbent fills a special advisory role and is responsible for handling the highest-priority and most-sensitive media events. The incumbent directly supervisors four Public affairs employees.

Qualifications and Evaluations


EXPERIENCE:  Six years of progressively responsible experience in a multilingual, multicultural, multinational, or government or media environment with marketing, public relations, communication, or political/social analysis is required.  At least two years of experience working on public relations campaigns or in organizing press events similar in nature to press activities related to visits by high-ranking United States Government (USG) officials is required.


Education Requirements:

A University degree in journalism, communications, international relations, English, public affairs, or social sciences is required.



LANGUAGE: Fluent in writing/reading/speaking of English is required (this will be tested).

Fluent in writing/reading/speaking of Arabic is required.

Benefits:Agency Benefits: Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Cairo may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.  

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office. The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

* IMPORTANT:  Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification.  A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.


** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
