Section: Introduction

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.  The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes.  Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

WFP’s Regional Bureau for the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe (RBC, based in Cairo, Egypt) provides strategic guidance, policy/technical support and direction to WFP operations and activities in 17 countries: Algeria, Armenia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kyrgyz Republic, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, State of Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkey and Yemen. Embracing two macro-regions, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and the Eastern Europe and Central Asia (CIS) regions, the WFP Regional Bureau Cairo (RBC) oversees a vast area with some of the most critical humanitarian emergencies of our time. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the WFP Operational Information Management & Performance Reporting (OIM & PR) Unit in the RBC.

Why Intern in WFP
  1. Acquire Knowledge of WFP’s humanitarian work, operations, and activities in the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe. In-depth knowledge of the wide range of operations carried out by individual WFP country offices.
  2. Gain exposure to the work of individual functional areas involved in WFP operation (e.g. Programme & Policy, Supply Chain, Monitoring & Evaluation, Vulnerability Assessment, and Mapping, etc.) at the regional bureau level and the ability to learn from exchanges with these units.
  3. Gain exposure to additional WFP work areas through online learnings and personal exchange.

Given the responsibility for a region hosting a number of complex and protracted emergencies, RBC relies heavily on the timely coordination of reports and information gathering activities to direct its operations and programs. The Annual Country Report (ACR) is a report WFP produces for operational projects to inform its donors how resources for any given project were used, and the results obtained during the reporting year. They are also key corporate tools used to improve results monitoring and reporting for corporate accountability and learning, and to ensure strengthened linkages with WFP’s Strategic Objectives.

Under the supervision of the Operational Information Management and Performance Reporting Officer, the Unit seeks an intern to support the team during the ACR preparation and coordination period. The intern will assist in coordinating and reviewing the ACRs in the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe region, in addition to regular and ad-hoc reporting products produced by the OIM Unit
