The U.S. Mission in Cairo/Egypt is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Economic Assistant in the Economic Section (ECON).
The work schedule for this position is Full Time 40 hrs. per week.
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Section: Responsibilities / Duties
The incumbent of this position supports the Embassy’s Economic Section through contact building, research, and analytical reporting. The incumbent will work on a broad range of topics related to economic development, with an emphasis on environmental, scientific, health, and technology affairs. It is critical that s/he maintain and build a strong network of contacts in government, academia, and the private sector in-order to quickly obtain reliable-information for reporting and policy discussions. The incumbent will track news, identity and report trends, and, participate in strategy and planning sessions. S/he will support American Foreign Service Officers in all aspects of their work, providing an overview of relevant sectors when staff members arrive at Post, offering background on past priorities and programs, brokering contacts, and responding to requests for information. The incumbent will support official visits.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Experience: Minimum of three years of full-time work experience in economics, international development, science, or technology fields is required.
Job Knowledge: Knowledge of environment, science, technology and health sectors in Egypt, including familiarity with relevant government institutions, development agencies, and businesses.
- Education Requirements:
University degree in Economics, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or Public Health. Course work with a concentration in environment, science, technology, or health is required.
Fluency in Speaking/writing/reading of English is required. “This may be tested”
Fluency in Speaking/writing/reading of Arabic is required. “This may be tested”
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Gather, analyze, and assess information from a broad range of sources (including technical and scientific publications, in both English and Arabic). Must be able to conduct independent research, summarize data quickly and accurately, think critically, and spot trends.
